Actions taken in bullying cases in educational institutes in Asuncion

This paper aims to analyze the actions taken by school principals in schoolhouses A, B and C, in cases of school-based harassment (bullying). The research covers three educational centers that belong to the Section of Pedagogical Supervision of Zone 1, level 2, region 1 –capital-. To get to the findings, several surveys were conducted among 4th, 5th and 6th year high-school students. The indicators taken are: type of harassment, the time span in which harassment takes place, possible causes or motivation, frequency, activities implemented to mitigate harassment, among others. The approach is quantitative; the design is non-experimental of transversal type, sub-type descriptive. The most relevant findings of the surveys were the types of harassments, namely verbal, psychological, social and physical. Even though school principals declare to conduct activities with teachers and students, related to prevention and information about types of harassment and how to tackle them, even then it could be observed a high percentage of bullying cases in these institutions. For this reason, it is commendable that principals boost these participatory activities with the school community more frequently, which will enable a better approach of school-based harassment. These activities can be talk with teachers, students and their family members, containment program and monitoring of the victims and aggressors, as well as enhancing communication channels to make them more effective for immediate complaints.
