The commercialization of illegal drugs or drug trafficking is considered a problem that has social, economic, health and legal aspects, among others, whose consequences affect not only the addict, but all members of society. Therefore, the research approached this issue as a social problem in the Republic of Paraguay and is focused on the analysis of the national regulations related to the punishable act of drug trafficking, foreseen in Law n. 1340/88: “That represses the illicit traffic of narcotics and dangerous drugs and other related crimes and establishes measures for the prevention and recovery of drug addicts” and the review of statistics -regarding the drug abuse by juvenile population- of the National Police and SENAD applied to students (2023) between 12 and 17 years of age, regarding the use of substances such as: alcohol, tobacco, tranquilizers and stimulants without medical prescription, as well as cocaine and marijuana. For this purpose, a qualitative approach was used, with a non-experimental design, documentary type, with a descriptive scope. It is concluded that Paraguay has regulations aimed at the prevention and repression of drug trafficking; however, this does not hinder its consumption and consequent addiction, which is why, in order to combat it, coordinated work is necessary to design multidisciplinary actions by the responsible institutions. It is important to emphasize that, although it affects populations living in poverty to a greater degree, it is a situation that permeates transversally in all social classes.
