Abstract

The objective of the research was to compare an empirical model with those reported in the literature published from 2020 to 2024 on the measurement and prediction of fear of crime and perception of public safety, to establish the determinants in older adults with Alzheimer’s disease, at a stage indicated by the loss of procedural memory, with the characteristic of a constant recall of victimization events caused by delinquency and crime at some point in their lives. Regarding the method, a cross-sectional study was conducted, with exploratory and correlational scope, with non-experimental design and mixed approach. For this purpose, we worked with a non-probabilistic sample of 208 older adults, selected for their participation in the system of professional internships and social service of a public university in Mexico. In this context, dimensions related to the perception of unpredictability, controllability, attitude towards corruption, negligence and opacity in matters of public safety were established. The results show through the instrument applied, that public insecurity is related to quality of life, measuring the fear of crime and delinquency, a fact that shows a relationship with the mental illnesses: Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, which could serve as a basis for discussing the need to promote state policies for crime prevention, crime fighting, the way of imparting justice and how they affect mental health or the development of dementia.
