Approach to the investigation of the punishable act of femicide in Paraguay

Abstract

An article is presented as a result of the analysis of the Latin American Model Protocol for the Investigation of Gender-Related Violent Deaths of Women. For this purpose, a qualitative approach was used, with a non-experimental design, documentary type, with a descriptive scope. The findings were as follows: The protocol indicates the constant monitoring of investigation and sanction policies. In coordination with the institutions in charge of gender-based violence prevention policies, it is important to establish monitoring and evaluation processes for the application and impact of policies for the investigation and prosecution of femicides, through the development of guidelines based on the principles set forth in this document. It also refers to the training and education of public officials. The conclusion is that it is essential to establish multidisciplinary training, retraining and professionalization programs for those responsible for victim assistance and counseling, police, forensic or prosecutorial investigation, and prosecution, in order to promote the adoption of a gender and women’s rights approach throughout the entire process of attention, investigation and prosecution of cases of violence. To this end, it is recommended that the contents of this Model be integrated into the curricula of these training centers.
