The objective of this research is to analyze the dispersion diameters of shots fired from shotguns with short and long barrels, as well as those using ½ and ¾ chokes. As for the method, it is of a relational type, with a quantitative approach, descriptive in scope, as for the design, it is intended to establish, from experimental tests, the existing relationship between the shot distance and the dispersion diameter of the pellets as a function of the type of barrel tube and the use of chokes. For this purpose, shotguns were used for the execution of the shots at known distances of: 5 m, 15 m and 25 m, measured from the muzzle of the gun. For this purpose, a combination of short and long standard barrels -without choke-, short and long barrels with ½ and ¾” and ½ and ¾” chokes were used. Seven repetitions were carried out in each of the treatments, in which the correlations between the various variables were established, allowing estimating that, as a function of distance, the barrel variables do not have a perfect positive correlation, i.e., for the same shot distances, the dispersion diameters according to the type of barrel and the use of chokes are different, which are important variables to consider when evaluating the shot distance in ballistic reconstructions.
