Natural law and legal positivism

Although, apparently, giving a concept of law should be a relatively easy matter, since all people have at least a general and approximate notion of it, in reality, this task is very difficult, such is the case that Carlos Santiago Nino states that the question what is law? it is “the one that provokes the greatest irritation and disorientation among jurists”. Possibly, one of the problems when conceptualizing law is that when we speak of "law" we do not do so with a single and unequivocal meaning, but rather we refer to a multiplicity of meanings that are related to each other, such as: 1 ) Science or scientific discipline; 2) Faculty, authority or prerogative of the individual (subjective right); 3) Set of legal norms that form the current system (objective right); 4) Ideal of justice; and 5) Social or cultural product. Having pointed out the problem, it is worth noting that through this work we will try to present the conception of law from the point of view of two of the most emblematic currents of legal thought: natural law and positivism.
