Violence against women as a conducive factor to crime in adolescents prosecuted for murder.

Analysis of cases reported at Centro Educativo Virgen de Fátima from march to june 2017

Abstract

This investigation intends to examine the relationship between adolescents  prosecuted for homicide, and the fact that they were, at some point of their lifes, victims of violence based on gender. The objective is the detection of cases of violence lived by the female agressors and the consequent process that leads to killer behaviour. The present paper delivers a quantitative research, framed in case studies, of descriptive-exploratory nature. For collection of data, several interviews with open-ended questions were conducted. The studied population is the total of adolescents convicted for murder in Paraguay, who are imprisoned at the Centro Educativo “Virgen de Fátima”, during the months of march and june 2017. The referential framework corresponds to the three types of criminological factors, according to their function: predisposing, preparing and triggering. The cases of murder are taken as starting point. The study includes a retrospective analysis with comments on the answers of the interview questionnaire. The study of the results is on a case by case basis, the paper also transcribes some phrases of the respondents. The study identifies the function of the violence episodes as factors that influence in the completion of the criminal behaviour. The samples indicate signs of victimization, it can therefore be concluded that, the violence episodes enabled the predisposition for the completion of homicide.
