Seminar on illicit traffic and counterfeiting

Taking into account the global panorama and the implications of the phenomenon, INTERPOL's Legal Affairs Bureau together with the Ministry
Public of Paraguay, decided to carry out a training seminar in order to contribute to the evolution and training of Paraguayan justice operators in matters of illicit trade and counterfeiting. This seminar took place at the Attorney General of Paraguay (Asunción, Paraguay, from June 2 to 6, 2014). One of the first challenges was the selection of the topics that would be addressed during the first legal seminar of these characteristics to be held between INTERPOL and the Public Ministry of Paraguay. The difficulty of this task lies in
the sheer number of sectors, modus operandi, implications and complexities encompassed by illicit trafficking and counterfeit goods. As a starting point, the unavoidable issues to combat this phenomenon were included, namely, the study of the transnational nature of the phenomenon, the need
to apply a transversal vision and to implement the relevant conventions on the matter (sectoral and intersectoral), as well as the analysis of the (criminal) behaviors of support that generally accompany this type of criminal industries:
organized crime (participation in a criminal group or conspiracy), money laundering and corruption.
